Home Away From Home

If you happen to be visiting Hagerstown and are on the North Side on a Sunday morning, then it's a must to go to Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship. BCOB is a small friendly little church located slightly off the beaten path (I-81 being the beaten path). It's a church you don't notice right away because it just fits into its own little community.

Cearfoss is located south of Maugansville and west of Hagerstown Maryland. Cearfoss is more of a state of mind than a town, a little district perhaps. There is a Christian school and a larger church associated with the school a mile away, and that seems to be Cearfoss' claim to fame. Actually, Cearfoss has a quaint little roundabout, and BCOB is located on one of the legs to that roundabout. You can see it slightly to the south as you enter the roundabout.

What should you expect when you go into BCOB? You will probably be greeted by several parishioners before you're handed a bulletin. The sanctuary itself is not all that large but you shouldn't have a hard time finding a place to sit. I guarantee that if you were to happen in a little late, someone will make room for you.

The music is traditional and you'll feel at home during the prayer and sermon. Pastor Len preaches solely from the Word of God. You'll be challenged and thrilled that the Bible is still being preached in church. There is a healthy mix of young and old in the congregation, and you may even hear an occasional "Amen" to what the pastor says.

Afterwards, don't be surprised if you're invited over to someone's home after the service, even if you don't know a soul. In fact, because you don't know a soul, you might be invited over. You'll come away from BCOB with a sense that this is fellowship should be like and this is how the Bible should be preached. Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship is just that kind of church.
